Family Law Firm: Cited in Google's AI Answers, and a New Client Won From AI Search

Client: Family law firm (anonymous)  |  Services: SEO, answer engine optimisation (AEO), content, link building  |  Result: Cited in more than 200 Google AI answers, top-10 rankings roughly doubled, and a new client won from AI search

A family law firm partnered with Technical Content Links in March 2026. People going through a separation ask a lot of questions before they ever call a lawyer, and more and more of those questions are now answered by AI in Google’s results. The firm wanted to be the source those answers draw on.

“We got our first lead from AEO and closed them. It’s a great feeling to know the work we’re doing has translated to client acquisition so quickly.”

At a glance

  • Industry: Legal, family law
  • Engagement: White label SEO and AEO, from March 2026
  • Starting point (March 2026): 363 keywords in Google’s top 10, 210 of them in the top five
  • Results (October 2026): the site is linked as a source in 202 Google AI Overview and AI Mode answers; top-10 keywords peaked at 773 in August 2026 (about 2.1x) and sat at 698 in October; top-five keywords peaked at 420; the firm has won its first client from AI search

The challenge

Family law is a crowded, high-trust category. Prospective clients research for weeks, asking practical questions about separation agreements, property, children and costs. AI answers in Google now respond to many of those questions directly, so a firm that isn’t cited in them can miss the client before the search ever reaches a list of links.

Our approach

Onboarding and strategy. Keyword research and mapping, a full manual technical audit, a content audit, a documented strategy and the first new content.

The big-ticket items in the first months:

  • 301 redirects and Google Business Profile optimisation
  • A schema audit and noindex directives for low-value pages
  • Metadata optimisation and updates to the main navigation
  • A new HTML sitemap and a Google Search Console audit
  • Research into the cost and fee questions clients ask before they choose a lawyer, feeding a content calendar

Answer engine optimisation. The core of the campaign has been FAQ content with FAQ schema on the firm’s service pages. Each answer is written to respond clearly and directly to a real question, so both Google and AI systems can lift it with confidence.

Then consistency. Every month the campaign added FAQ content, guest post links to the homepage, and directory and social profile links, with a six-month campaign review and technical audit in September 2026.

The results

  • AI search visibility: by October 2026 the firm’s site was linked as a source in 202 Google AI Overview and AI Mode answers. It is cited for questions such as “separation agreements lawyer”, “legal separation contract”, “amicable separation” and “changing surname after divorce”, often as one of the first sources listed.
  • Rankings: keywords in Google’s top 10 grew from 363 when the campaign began to a peak of 773 in August 2026, and keywords in the top five doubled from 210 to 420.
  • New business: within months, the firm received its first enquiry that came through AI search and turned it into a client.
