The details
What's included in an agency SEO audit?
Team and skills
Roles, workloads, skill gaps and how work is split between strategists, specialists and account managers.
Processes and workflows
Onboarding, strategy, monthly delivery, QA and reporting, compared with how top agencies run them.
Deliverable review
A sample of real client work checked for quality and consistency: audits, content, links and reports.
Client results and churn
Which clients are growing, which are at risk and the delivery patterns behind each.
Tools and costs
Your tool stack, overlaps and gaps, and where AI or automation could save hours each month.
Pricing and margins
Package pricing, hours per account and supplier costs, to show where margin is being lost.
How the agency audit works
Most agencies know something isn’t right: margins are thin, clients churn after six months, or results depend on one or two people. The audit finds the causes and gives you a plan to fix them, in priority order.
- Discovery We talk with you and your leadership team about goals, pain points and how the agency runs today.
- Review We interview key team members, review processes and tools, and assess a sample of client work and results.
- Analyse We look at pricing, hours and supplier costs per account to understand where margin goes.
- Report and plan You get a written report and a prioritised 90-day plan, walked through in a working session.
What happens next
Some agencies take the plan and run with it. Others ask us to help: building the systems and processes, stepping in as a fractional head of SEO, or taking on delivery through our white label SEO. If growth has stalled, our article on the agency growth ceiling covers the most common causes.
Case studies
We got our first lead from AEO and closed them. It's a great feeling to know the work we're doing has translated to client acquisition so quickly.
Through Harry's services, the Google search rankings for almost all SEO target phrases have improved from low to very high rankings within a few months! I am very happy to recommend Technical Content Links for marketing consultants and ad agencies.
The team are fast to respond and always have answers when I need them. He's helped us scale our agency faster than we would have done so by hiring employees. I can't recommend the service enough.
FAQ
Everything you need to know
How long does an agency audit take?
Usually three to four weeks, depending on the size of the team and how many client accounts we review.
Will you talk to our team?
Yes, with your agreement. Short interviews with key team members are often where the most useful findings come from. Everything is confidential.
How long before we see a real difference?
Usually a few months. We build new systems and processes around your existing ones rather than replacing everything overnight, so the change sticks. As they bed in, efficiency improves, output increases and your non-technical staff are upskilled to run them. Most agencies see things start to shift after the first few months.
Do you need access to client accounts?
Read-only access to a sample of client work and reports helps a lot. We sign an NDA and never contact your clients.
Is the audit only about SEO?
SEO delivery is the focus, but we also look at the wider operation that affects it: sales handover, account management, pricing and reporting.
