Chart of keywords ranking in Google's top 10 for a regional fishing charter business, 2021 to 2025, with the campaign start in June 2021

Fishing Charter Business: 15x More Top-10 Rankings on a Small Budget

Client: Regional fishing charter business (anonymous)  |  Services: Content, technical SEO, link building  |  Result: Top-10 keywords up from 26 to 390, and top-five keywords up from 5 to 286, on a small monthly budget

A regional fishing charter business partnered with Technical Content Links in mid-2021, through a tourism marketing agency partner. It runs private, full-day, half-day and reef fishing charters, and the campaign ran on a small monthly budget.

At a glance

  • Industry: Travel and tourism, fishing charters
  • Engagement: White label SEO, mid-2021 to October 2025, on a small monthly budget
  • Starting point (June 2021): 26 keywords in Google’s top 10, 5 of them in the top five
  • Results: 390 top-10 keywords and 286 top-five keywords (August 2025); average organic traffic up from 95 visits a month in 2021 to 267 in 2025

The challenge

Small tourism operators can’t outspend booking platforms or large competitors. With a tight budget, every task had to earn its place, and the charter pages themselves needed to answer the questions people ask before booking a boat.

Our approach

Getting the basics right.

  • Goal tracking, fixes to redirected internal links, noindex directives and footer optimisation
  • Heading fixes, keyword-targeted H1s and metadata optimisation
  • FAQ keyword research for each charter page, then FAQ content and FAQ schema on the private, full-day, half-day and reef charter pages
  • An XML sitemap clean-up, a new HTML sitemap, and removal of a duplicate page
  • Search Console audits and fixes, an internal linking audit, and a keyword map refresh to check for cannibalisation
  • Navigation and footer improvements, image alt text, competitor blog analysis and page content optimisation

Then consistency. Every month the campaign added guest post links (to the homepage, the individual charter pages and later the boats page), directory and citation links, and new blog content. Regular campaign reviews and technical audits kept the small budget focused on what was working.

The results

  • Rankings: keywords in Google’s top 10 grew from 26 to 390, 15 times more. Keywords in the top five grew from just 5 to 286.
  • Traffic: average organic traffic grew from 95 visits a month in 2021 to 267 in 2025, peaking at 365. For a business with a limited number of seats on each trip, that is a meaningful source of direct bookings.

What this means for agencies

Small clients are often written off as not worth an SEO campaign. This one shows that a modest monthly budget, spent consistently on the right things, compounds into real visibility. We deliver campaigns at every budget, white label.
